Catania is one of Sicily's strongest walk-off city ports. From the port gate, Piazza Duomo, the Pescheria fish market, Via Etnea, the Roman theatre and Castello Ursino form a compact route through a UNESCO-listed late-Baroque centre rebuilt in dark lava stone. Mount Etna, Taormina and the Cyclops Coast are compelling excursions, but each deserves most of the day. Port operations and current volcanic restrictions must be checked rather than assumed.

Catania itself fills a rewarding port day. The Cyclops Coast is the easiest half-day extension; Etna and Taormina are headline full-day choices. Syracuse is feasible on a long call but should not be combined with extensive Catania sightseeing.
