At a Glance

Larnaca is one of Cyprus's easiest city calls: its working port lies north of the marina, about 1.2 km from the main promenade and roughly 2 km from the historic centre. Walk or take a short taxi to Finikoudes, Saint Lazarus Church, the medieval castle and the Pierides Museum. With four or more hours, the salt lake and Hala Sultan Tekke make the best nearby extension; Lefkara and Choirokoitia reward a longer, pre-arranged day.

⚠️ The terminal is inside a multipurpose working port; follow marked passenger routes and staff instructions.

⚠️ Summer heat and UV exposure are severe, with little shade on the port approach and around the salt lake.

⚠️ Route 425 schedules and stops can change; do not rely on an old cruise-map timetable.

⚠️ Hala Sultan Tekke is an active place of worship and closes for Friday prayers from 13:00 to 15:00.

Did you know?

Larnaca has stories most visitors walk straight past.

  • 1

Larnaca's name is connected with the ancient stone coffins, or larnakes, found in the area.

  • 2

The city stands over ancient Kition, a major Bronze Age and Phoenician centre.

  • 3

Saint Lazarus is traditionally believed to have lived in Kition after his resurrection and served as its bishop.

  • 4

The salt lake is a 1,761-hectare protected wetland and has been a Ramsar site since 2001.

If you have…

⏱ 2 hours

  1. 1.Leave by the confirmed passenger gate and walk or taxi to Europe Square and Finikoudes.
  2. 2.Choose the Pierides Museum if open, or continue through the old streets to Saint Lazarus Church.
  3. 3.Return along the promenade with at least 30 minutes in reserve for the port entrance.

🕐 4 hours

  1. 1.Walk from the port to the Pierides Museum, then follow Finikoudes south.
  2. 2.Visit Saint Lazarus Church and the medieval castle, checking service and opening times.
  3. 3.Have a promenade or old-town lunch and return on foot or by taxi with 45 minutes in reserve.

🌅 A full day

  1. 1.Start with Saint Lazarus Church, the Pierides Museum and a short Finikoudes walk.
  2. 2.Choose one road extension: Salt Lake and Hala Sultan Tekke, Lefkara, or Choirokoitia.
  3. 3.Book transport or a return pickup before leaving the centre and protect a 60–90 minute ship buffer.
  4. 4.Finish with a Cypriot lunch only if the return route and all-aboard time remain secure.

The area around

Finikoudes and the old centre form the low-risk walking core. The salt lake lies southwest of town, while the mountain-foot village of Lefkara and UNESCO-listed Choirokoitia require a road transfer and a generous return buffer.

Things cruise passengers get wrong

  • ⚠️The terminal is in a controlled working port; confirm that passengers may use the walking route and allow time for gate formalities.
  • ⚠️Friday prayer closure at Hala Sultan Tekke from 13:00 to 15:00 can invalidate a short taxi plan.
  • 🚨Lefkara and Choirokoitia are road excursions; protect a 60–90 minute return buffer and do not combine both on a short call.
