At a Glance

Trogir packs an exceptional historic centre onto a small island joined by bridges to the mainland and Čiovo. The Cathedral of St Lawrence, Radovan's Portal, Kamerlengo Fortress, town loggia and monastery collections are all within a few minutes of the Riva. It is primarily a boutique-cruise and sailing port: small vessels berth on the municipal waterfront, others tender, and large ocean ships usually arrive in Split rather than Trogir itself.

⚠️ Old-town limestone is extremely polished and slippery when wet.

⚠️ Road traffic around Trogir, Split Airport and the bridges can cause major delays.

⚠️ Kamerlengo and cathedral access changes for services and summer events.

⚠️ Do not assume a call labelled Split/Trogir actually lands in Trogir.

Top Things to Do

Cathedral of St Lawrence and Radovan's Portal

Must see

Kamerlengo Fortress

45–75 min · Paid interior — verify current price

Seasonal visitor access; summer concerts and rehearsals can close the interior.

St Nicholas Monastery and Kairos Collection

Easy to moderate

Verify current seasonal opening and closing day.

Čiovo Beach or Blue Lagoon Boat Trip

3–6 hrs · Paid excursion; beaches free

A licensed excursion can add swimming around Čiovo or the Krknjaši Blue Lagoon, but it should be treated as a dedicated weather-dependent alternative to a slow heritage day.

  • 2

A pharmacy was established on its main square in 1271.

  • 3

Trogir joined UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1997.

If you have…

⏱ 2 hours

  1. 1.Walk straight from the Riva to St Lawrence Cathedral and study Radovan's Portal.
  2. 2.Cross the main square, loggia and Čipiko palaces.
  3. 3.Return along the waterfront past Kamerlengo Fortress exterior.

🕐 4 hours

  1. 1.Visit the cathedral complex and bell tower near opening.
  2. 2.Follow the official ten-step old-town circuit to St Nicholas and the museum area.
  3. 3.Enter Kamerlengo if open, then have a reserved central lunch.

🌅 A full day

  1. 1.Complete the cathedral, old town and Kamerlengo in the morning.
  2. 2.Choose a Čiovo beach, Blue Lagoon boat, or pre-booked Salona visit after lunch.
  3. 3.Do not add Split by road unless the call is long and transport is guaranteed.
  4. 4.Allow 30–45 minutes for berth access or tendering.

The area around

Trogir itself comfortably fills two to four hours. Čiovo provides nearby beaches, the Blue Lagoon offers a boat day, and Split, Salona or Klis are longer road choices. Pick one extension because traffic can be unpredictable.

Čiovo and Okrug beaches

15–30 min by road or boat

Swimming · Beach cafés · Island coast

Blue Lagoon / Krknjaši

30–60 min by boat

Clear water · Snorkelling · Boat day

Salona

30–50 min by road

Amphitheatre · Early Christian sites · Roman walls

Split

35–75 min by road

Diocletian's Palace · Riva · St Domnius Cathedral

Things cruise passengers get wrong

  • ⚠️A Split/Trogir itinerary may berth in Split rather than Trogir harbour.
  • ⚠️Municipal small-ship positions change and side-by-side boarding may be required.
  • ⚠️Bridge and airport-road traffic can severely delay regional excursions.

Weather through the year

May, June, September and early October suit compact old-town walking without peak crowds and heat.
